Making Tops and concrete dog bowls

Much of what makes our process different is on the unseen inside of our countertops.

First we hand weld 3/8" rebar creating a frame or cage which strengthens the finished product and allows it to be delivered and installed with confidence. This also stops structural cracks.

Secondly we use Alkaline Resistant Glass Reinforcement Fiber on the bottom two-thirds of all our countertops. Said fiber forms a matrix. Averaging 1 million strands per square inch, this matrix dramatically strengthens the finished product as stone aggregate does in concrete highways. It bonds the concrete together in all dimensions.

How the sealer works: Introduced to the U.S. market in June 2008, Counter-UV from Surface 519 is one of the only concrete countertop sealers available that cures instantly upon exposure to ultraviolet light, allowing immediate final finishing and polishing. The product is a unique blend of a polyurethane oligomer (a type of polymer), acrylates, methacrylates and "photo-initiators," says Surface 519 owner Bob Chatterton. The photo-initiators act as a catalyst to trigger the nearly instant cure.

Performance in stain-resistance tests: In stain-resistance tests conducted by The Concrete Countertop Institute and available on the Concrete Connections website, Counter-UV performed exceptionally well.
Under a scoring system ranging from 0% (complete failure) to 100% (no failure), Counter-UV applied at 3-mil thickness achieved 100% resistance to stains from acids, solvents and cleaners and 98% resistance to harsh staining agents such as vinegar, mustard and red wine. The sealer was exposed to the substances for 24 hours.

Finally, a set of dog bowls that will not be pushed around!

Inspired by Stonehenge, this artistic yet functional piece of furniture includes two removable 6-inch diameter stainless steel dog bowls suspended by handcrafted, custom designed 1.5-inch thick Buddy Rhodes countertop concrete, measuring 16 inch L x 9.5 inch D x 4 inch H, signed by the artisan.

Color: Moss slate with chocolate and charcoal overtones, featuring snow colored accents.

The front-edge is sculptured like that of stone. Photo luminescent/ glow-in-dark details make it visible at night. All surfaces are sealed with a satin finish, indoor/outdoor, two-stage ultra violet light activated sealer. Felt details on bottom of support legs to protect floor.
